A: You are first generation
to attend and graduate from college when your parents/ guardians in your
immediate family did not attend or graduate from a four year
university. If you have older siblings who either attended or graduated
college, you are still considered to be first generation.
Q: One of my parents
attended a four-year university, but did not graduate. Do I still meet
the requirements to apply for the Unlocking Doors Scholarship?
A: No, the Unlocking Doors
Scholarship is only awarded to females where neither parent attended OR
graduated from a four-year university.
Q: Am I still eligible if my
aunt or uncle attended or graduated from a 4-year university?
A: Aunts and uncles are not
considered to be immediate family, so even if they did attend college,
you are still eligible to apply to Unlocking Doors.
Q: I am planning on
attending a community college for the first two years of college and
then transferring to a four-year university for my last two years. Do I
still meet the requirements to apply for the Unlocking Doors
Scholarship?
A: No, the Unlocking Doors
Scholarship is only awarded to females who are planning on entering a
four-year university as a freshman.
Q: I have a high school GPA
that is below 3.0. Do I still meet the requirements to apply for the
Unlocking Doors Scholarship?
A: Yes! There is no
minimum GPA or SAT/ACT score requirement to apply for the Unlocking
Doors Scholarship.
Q: I have already graduated
from high school, but am planning on attending a four-year university in
the fall. Do I still meet the requirements to apply for the Unlocking
Doors Scholarship?
A: No, the Unlocking Doors
Scholarship is only open to females who are currently high school
seniors.
Q: I’m planning on
attending a four-year university, but it is a specialty university
(military, music, drama, etc). Do I still meet the requirements to
apply for the Unlocking Doors Scholarship?
A: Yes! There is no
major/emphasis of study requirement for to apply for the Unlocking Doors
Scholarship.
Q: I seem to meet all the
requirements of the scholarship except that I am a male. Can I still be
considered as a recipient of the Unlocking Doors Scholarship?
A: No, the Unlocking Doors
Scholarship is targeted towards females who are the first generation in
their family to attend a four-year university.

Q: Do I need to submit my

A: We may ask you to submit
your parent’s tax returns before we disperse the money.
Q: What is the deadline for
submitting my Unlocking Doors application?
A: The deadline for
submitting the Unlocking Doors application is March 31st, 2007.
Applications postmarked later than March 31st, 2007 will not be
considered.
Q: I applied for the
Unlocking Doors Scholarship. When will I be notified whether or not I
won the scholarship?
A: We will be notifying all
applicants via email or mail by May 31st, 2007.
Q: When will I receive the
money?
A: Money will be dispersed
once we receive confirmation of your university enrollment.
Q: What else will be
required of me?
A: We will also be asking
recipients to submit a photograph and short biography to be posted on
the Unlocking Doors website and included in our newsletter.
